Q: I have been told that I have poor sperm
quality. Can this be treated so that my sperm will improve?
A: Usually, when the germ cells have been damaged and only
produce poor quality sperm, there is no way these cells can be regenerated
to produce good sperm again.
Q: My husband and I have been told that there is nothing wrong
with us but we cannot conceive. Why is this?
A: About 10%-15% of couples who are unable to conceive have
no obvious cause of their infertility. This can be very frustrating.
However, knowing the cause will often not make any difference to
the treatment regime selected.
Q: How important is stress in preventing me from conceiving?
A: Stress has been shown to have a negative impact on fertility,
so management of your stress will help you to conceive.
Q: My husband works in a factory in very high temperatures. Do
you think is making him infertile?
A: Our modern day living is certainly contributing to the general
reduction in sperm quality in men. The factors which are making
sperm quality poorer include occupations which are preventing the
testicles from keeping cool, such as your husband’s, but also wearing
tight clothing in hot countries, tobacco, pollution, overweight
and lack of general fitness.
